The education sector has been hit with a major controversy as Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch) is calling on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately recall over 83,000 government-issued tablets following reports that some students are using them to access pornography instead of educational content. The issue gained national attention after the Minister for Education revealed in Parliament that several Senior High School students had bypassed safety restrictions on the tablets. Many of the devices were reportedly not properly customised or secured, leaving open access to inappropriate websites and apps.Eduwatch has strongly criticised this lapse, describing it as a serious child-protection failure. The organisation argues that the government should have installed robust filters, firewalls, and UNESCO-approved digital safety features before giving the devices to students. To prevent further misuse, Eduwatch is urging GES to retrieve all unsecured tablets, install strict protective controls, and reissue them only after proper configuration.
