Alassane Ouattara Wins Fourth Term in Ivory Coast’s 2025 Presidential Election

Ivory Coast’s long-serving leader, Alassane Ouattara, has secured a resounding victory in the 2025 presidential election, extending his rule for a fourth consecutive term. According to provisional results released by the electoral commission, Ouattara won approximately 89.77% of the total votes cast, reaffirming his dominance in Ivorian politics. His closest rival, Jean-Louis Billon, garnered just over 3%, while Simone Gbagbo, the former First Lady, managed around 2.4%.

The election, held peacefully across most parts of the country, recorded a voter turnout of about 50%, reflecting a mixed mood among citizens—some praising stability under Ouattara, others calling for generational change. Opposition candidates have since conceded defeat, with Billon acknowledging the outcome as a “democratic choice of the people.”

Ouattara’s supporters flooded the streets of Abidjan and Bouaké in celebration, hailing his victory as a testament to progress and development. However, critics fear that another term could deepen political fatigue and limit opportunities for new leadership. The Constitutional Council is expected to certify the final results in the coming days. As Ivory Coast looks ahead, all eyes remain on how President Ouattara will navigate the challenges of economic growth, national unity, and democratic renewal.
